Dear MakeMusic,

What happened to the 2008b update? I read the description of what had been fixed and tried to download it last night with no luck. I figured the download site was busy. Now it is gone!!

What gives here? The description sounded like it might solve the many issues of crashing I have had with Finale EVERY day since Leopard was released. Having called tech support, they have offered no remedies. Actually they just offered this statement: "It took us a long time to recreate the crashes other users have been experiencing." I found this statement to be a big pile #$RT^&*. I can get Finale to crash within a minute of opening the program. If this does not happen at MM headquarters, I need to move in!

Gone with the wind...
Seems to have a big problem with the installer script (obviously an illness of Finale 2008!)

Gone, but will come back soon... when MM engineers will be able to conceive a workable product devil

Because of minor problems with the Finale 2008b updater that were discovered after posting, we have temporarily withdrawn it from the website. When we have corrected the problem, the updater will be made available again.

Carla, does that mean that we who did update have a problem yet to be experienced? I updated a couple of days ago but have only worked sporadically with a few little things without encountering anomalies? Would it be wiser to delete the updated version and reinstall 2008 from scratch? I'm still in Tiger (latest version).

Will the replacement be called 2008c just to avoid confusion?

I downloaded the 2008b update, and now there are no icons in the tool palette. Am I stuck until a fix is released?

How on earth did QA miss that one? freaked

Presumably, though, you could simply uninstall the whole package and reinstall to 2008?

In program options>palettes and backgrounds, choose Traditional or Globe as the style for now. Those two should still work. Then just wait for MM to post an update that fixes this problem.

As posted on another thread here in this forum, another temporary solution is to replace the palettes with a previous version in your backups. Right click on finale app. Show package contents...go to teh resources/.../palettes and you should see the files in question. They should have zero bytes. Replacing these with your backup copy.

I used time machine. First, I copyed the B version to teh desktop, restored the old copy, opened the old copy (A), copied the palette files to the B palletes. Deleted the A version. Moved the B from the desktop back to the apps folder. That did the trick until they fix this release.

Doesnt give me much confidence in their SQA process. I mean this is basic build acceptance testing and on a release candidate! Is it indicative of larger makemusic corporate problems? And just think if this was something non-UI related...

Moreover, why would they design a product that has two locations for palettes - globe and traditional in one place, and some more in a resource folder? Bad SQA...Bad Software design...

As I posted in another thread you can copy the palettes from 2007 (maybe earlier versions also works).

Right click on Finale app. Show package contents...go to teh resources/.../palettes copy them to the same place in 2008b and it works as it should.

I was one of the people who did not get a chance to download the 2008b before it was pulled. I am sure many are wondering what you mean by "minor" and I think you owe your customer base an explanation.

As has been pointed out on this thread, the minor problem with the updater failed to include the optional palettes, although it did include the hardwired default palettes.

You would only see this problem if you had switched to a custom palette before updating.

Thanks for clarifying. I am sure many were wondering if it was something more serious and would cause issues with their computer if it had been installed. Although many customers have mentioned the palette issue, I believe this is the first time someone from MM has commented on it. You may want to put a sticky thread at the top explaining??

I very much look forward to not restarting my computer all day long,

This forum was and still is one of the most helpful ones in the world! After fiddling around with reinstalling, downgrading etc. more than half an hour with no result I went here and solved the palette problem in few minutes... :-) Thank you all!
