I've been reading about the touch bar on the new Macbook Pro. I wonder if that bar will have any special functionality in Finale.

I would expect a macro program like Keyboard Maestro to implement the touch bar first. Honestly, Finale has bigger fish to fry.

Having just got a new MacBook I can say that it's making it very hard to work in scroll view, moving back and forth. Sometimes nothing happens, then at other times scrolling jumps way past the target measure. I've had to go back and forth several times to get the the right measure. Trying to move just one measure seems downright impossible! It might just be a matter of getting used to it, or learning to get the pressure right.

I don't have a touch bar on my MacBook, but what you describe sounds exactly like my experience with the trackpad in Finale.

It works much better pre Finale 2014. Whatever they did to the screen drawing to allow for pinch to zoom, it made plain scrolling around really inaccurate. Using Finale 2011 on my Retina Macbook Pro, the scrolling behavior is what you would expect.

OK I see, the touch bar--a new add-on feature for an extra costi on new MacBooks--is completely different than the trackpad. Apologies, my comments referred to the trackpad.

But on my older MacBook and Finale 2012, I did not experience the jerky scrolling?

I use the TrackPad on my MBP and I have the Magic TrackPad for my desktop Mini. I love the way they work, and have found no problem using them in Finale. Finale may have been sluggish and unresponsive on occasion, but that wasn't anything to do with the input device, as far as I can tell.

However, it is weird that ever since 2012, different setups seem to produce different results. Scroll View is too fast! Scroll View is not fast enough!

Retina displays may be a factor, at a guess.

As to the new line-up of Macs: I'd rather MM focused on more core tasks. They've given us some very nice Mac-only features, but they've got enough on their plate right now.

And the MBPs are just so pricey right now. They're about double what I paid for my MacBook in 2009!

For applications that don't have anything special for the touch screen, and I assume Finale will be one of these at least for a while, what will be there? F-keys, do you think?

I'm hoping so, too, Bill. Hopefully, Finale will be on the forefront of great new feature, and not playing catch-up much later.

I personally would like to keep the function keys; I use them all the time to insert harmonies.

Here is how to let the function keys stick to Touch Bar without having to press the fn key all the time:
