This is my tribute to the event that took place exactly 100 years ago today: the premiere of "The Rite of Spring". I hope you find it amusing, even if you don't use Finale or my plug-ins.

that's... amazing!
I didn't realize you had a plugin that could do that.
I rarely write any repeating patterns of this type, but that was still fascinating.

"There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs." ~John Rogers

Excellent work Jari! Back in 1993 Microsoft made a wonderful CD program called "Multimedia Stravinsky" which was a multimedia review/analysis of The Rite. It included Nijinsky's choreography (dances sometimes had to count to over 100 before executing another step), scrolling score where you could pick out individual instruments to listen to, historical data and other cool things. I still have the CD but it's too bad Microsoft hasn't updated that title for current operating systems. They also made Multimedia Beethoven, Shubert, Mozart and Musical Instruments.

I studied with the son of the lead trumpet player in the premier. He said his that his father never got over the fact that his brand new coat got ruined by the audience throwing stuff into the pit! And at some points in the premier it was such a fiasco that the orchestra members were just playing whatever they wanted. I suspect it was mostly brass players and percussion, being farther away from the conductor, who were doing that.rolleyes

Nice job and great demo of the plugin. I think the date at the end of the video (of the original production) should be May 29, 1913.

Like any birth, the Rite of Spring was a bit messy. But it is still breathing today. Who "would of thunk"?

Thanks, I noticed that after I already posted the link to a couple of places. The software I'm using can publish to YouTube at HD, but it can't update existing links. I'll see if I can save a file locally and update the link manually through YouTube, without loosing quality.

FWIW, I have used an earlier version of this task for my own projects for a couple of years. I've mostly used it to layout rhythm patterns that goes against the time signature (then I repitch, add artics/slurs, etc afterwards).

It's apparently not possible to replace the video content on YouTube. Instead, I've added an annotation box that overwrites the incorrect year at the end.

Of course I see this *after* I just finished composing a long section of just such a repeated ostinato!

Alanis Morissette would call this irony... and she would be wrong again. But still...
