I imported a Layer 2 Trumpet 2 line into my Layer 1 Trumpet 1 staff.

Now I have double accidentals, e.g. wherever a B flat was occurring at the same time for Trumpet 1 and 2 I now
have TWO flat signs when I only need one.

How do I get rid of them (hopefully without having to go to each occurrence and erase just one of them) ?

I should have been more clear. A trumpet line in Layer 2 was exported from Staff 2 into Staff 1 which has a pre-existing trumpet line in Layer 1.

When I view the results of combining the two in Staff 1 I see both trumpet lines just fine.

But where they are both playing the same note simultaneously (like a B flat) I see TWO flat signs, one
for each trumpet (presumably one coming from the Layer 1 line and one from the Layer 2 line). I did the note stems correctly though- Layer 1 going up and
Layer 2 going down.

How do I get rid of the extra redundant accidentals when they occur.

Are the flats positioned side-by-side or do they overlay one another? If they're overlayed they are overlayed perfectly, and a printout will show only one flat.

They are side-by-side.

It sounds like you are not using 2014, as the behavior is different starting in 2014 (including 2014.5). Which version do you have?

It looks like you're using Finale 2014, right? I was able to duplicate the scenario by "freezing" the accidentals. I think you can fix this by downloading and installing the JW Change plugin and using that to "unfreeze" the accidentals. Go here to download:

www.finaletips.nu/index.php/download/category/9-plug-ins-for-windows

open the plugin, go to the Accidentals pane, then to freeze and select "No". Run it on the entire file. I think that will fix things.

N- When I run the JW Instrument Change plug-in I do not see an "Accidentals" pane. For "Category" selections all I see is:
Dynamics
Tempo Marks
Expressive text
Technique
Rehearsal Marks
Misc
Tempo alteration
Tempo marks

Not "Instrument Change", but "Change". It's called "JW Change". You've got the wrong one.

For 2012, uncheck Use Cross-Layer Accidental Positioning in Document Options/Accidentals. This is a global setting. If you don't want that globally, then move the accidental in the shifted layer manually with Special Tools. Jari's plugin doesn't over-ride that Document Option.

Or you could hide the 'extra' accidental via SHIFT-8 in Speedy Entry (it doesn't matter which layer as Finale will adjust the positioning regardless) - I've been on 2014 for quite a while now, but I've used this method for years so I'm pretty sure it must have existed in 2012.
