I searched the forum and found out that several people had similar problems:
Printing directly from finale to printer (HP Laserjet 1300) or to a file works fine, but
whenever I try "compile postscript listing" or exporting a part of a file as eps I cannot print nor view the produced files. Gsview reports several errors.
The messages I found did not solve the problem, but they were more than a year old, maybe there is a solutuion now?

Ps: I never understood the difference between "compiling a postscript listing" and printing to a postscript file.

You can choose to print to a file in the Print dialog box from the File menu. Then when you click to Print the file, a box will come up and let you name the file. Name it with the extension .ps on the end. See if that works better for you.
Tech support will be able to tell you if there have been any developments on the compile postscript listing command. I don't remember the status of this.

Thank you for answering.
This is what I have already tried (see my first post) and works.
The problem only occurs when I try to export a part of a page as eps-graphic or use the "compile postscript listing".

I don't know enough about postscript to say authoritatively, but I was always under the impression that you could accomplish basically the same thing as compiling a postscript listing by printing to a .ps file.
As for creating an eps file with the graphics tool, that should work fine with your setup. Go ahead and contact tech support and they'll take you through some steps to try to solve the problem.

Tech Support will indeed try to help solve the problem. A year or so ago, I had a long-running email conversation with them in which they instructed me to try all sorts of different things. But to no avail.
To this day, the only way that I can make good EPS files on my Dell is to have the Microsoft Publisher Imagesetter set as the default PPD. (And this workaround does not work for everyone.) In fact, if I try to print from Finale to my HP 5000, I have to use the HP PCL6 driver, because printing to the PostScript driver will result in pages that are filled with lines—staff lines, bar lines, stems, beams, ledger lines, etc.—but no music characters.
The damndest thing is that if I use my other PC, a Gateway, which is set up identically with XP Pro, Finale does create good EPS files, and prints properly using the PostScript driver. I still think this has something to do with the fact that the Dell has Adobe Illustrator, PageMaker, Photoshop, Acrobat and Type Manager loaded, while the Gateway has only Acrobat and ATM loaded.
Some time ago, there was a post on this same subject from a former HP programmer. He was stumped as well, and he had made his living solving problems like these. When I read that, I immediately stopped worrying about it, because I figured that if he couldn't solve it, there was no solution.
Apparently, way way down in the registry, there is a never-ending conflict between Windows 2000/XP, Adobe PostScript and Finale. My guess is that if and when the font makers ditch PostScript once and for all in favor of open-type fonts, the world will be a better place.
To be totally honest, there is one foolproof way I can avoid all these problems: Use my Mac. Despite what a "real" Mac user would have you believe, Macs are far from perfect and have issues of their own, but PostScript isn't one of them.

Hi Gary,
I've only just read your last post (and I'm not going to read through this thread because I've had too many beers), but have you tried the Windows 2000 driver for the HP 5000 Postscript? I've never had a problem with that (but got familiar errors with the XP drivers), and I ALWAYS use that for printer music (and the PCL driver for everything else).

Many times, and never with any good results. I'm resigned to using my Imagesetter workaround for the duration.
