It is a new computer built from scratch this month (according to Apple who looked up the date), has the latest version of El Capitan, and has the latest version of Finale. Loaded 2014 a few days ago and then 2014.5 when it came out. It shouldn't be this hard on a new computer. | Back to Top

That is absolutely, positively 100% wrong as any Digital Performer user can tell you. Repairing Permissions often fixes Finale as well as HP print drivers. True, few other apps are affected by this issue anymore but those three are.
Apple has done away with permissions repair in OS 10.11 but prior to this, It is a very good idea.
I would hate to see someone have problems because you are giving bad advice. Please spare us all of the crap from all of the armchair experts on the Internet. They are wrong, too. How do we know? Because repairing permissions works and fixes problems – even if you disagree. YMMV. Mike Halloran

So far, after submitting several crash logs to the "customer success" team, I've been unsuccessful in getting Finale 2014.5 to open on El Capitan. On my old 2011 Mac Mini, which I haven't upgraded to El Capitan yet, 2014.5 opens, but preferences never save (despite having "save prefs at close" checked on).
I'm seeing many people trying to repair permissions, but since that option has been removed in El Capitan, no luck to help us out here.
I was told on the phone support line this morning that they're not seeing a lot of people with this issue. It seems this thread would say otherwise. If everyone can call/email in with this problem, perhaps we'd get some response?
In the meantime, I'm researching other software packages. In Scott Yoho's blog (at http://www.finalemusic.com/blog/finale-2014-5-is-here/), he proudly proclaims they fixed over 120 bugs in the release. How does a software company release something with over 120 bugs to begin with? As someone that paid full price for the software package, I find it infuriating that we are nothing more than beta testers for their product while they figure out what's wrong based on how many calls they get.
So far, 2014.5 is looking like another stellar beta release that the customers get to test for them. This is SO frustrating. Mac Mini/2.8 GHz Intel Core i5/16GB RAM/256GB SSD 10.11.1 (El Capitan) Finale 2014.5Post Edited (coreyhead) : 11/20/2015 12:54:00 PM (GMT-6) | Back to Top

It's not like my Mac Mini has some specialized hardware or 3rd party sound cards or any additional audio peripherals. This is an out-of-the-Apple-box computer. How old is the Mac your company tests your software on? Do you have the Apple SDK? Corey, As well as MM's own testing on several different Macs and OS versions, there are a large number of beta testers, who test the software to see how it works on a variety of hardware. I have the 2012 Mini and haven't observed problems launching Finale.
Even for a company of Apple's size, with 1 million beta testers and thousands of developers, you'll find people posting on Apple's forums saying "Don't you guys test this stuff? I installed OS X and now nothing works!" Problems that only affect some users but not others are notoriously difficult to fix, unless the common factor can be ascertained. That requires a lot of detailed info about your setup, and the setup of everyone else who has the problem. (And indeed, those that don't.) Diagnosing problems remotely is very difficult. Unless someone is right in front of your computer, they only have the information that you provide; they can't go looking around for themselves. So I know it's time-consuming and tedious, but if you want to get it fixed, then it needs to be done. I dare say there are people with problems running Sibelius, too, and it would be churlish to swap one set of problems for another.
You say you've tested a brand new admin account: that rules out any user prefs and processes, which is useful info. You say it's brand new out-of-the-box. No other third-party software of any kind? No anti-virus software? Nothing like Audio Hijack? Even Keyboard Macro utilities, Logitec mouse drivers, Little Snitch, anything that affects the system, though seemingly unrelated, can cause conflicts.
The next thing I would try is to check the Finale support folders. Check that Finale has installed a set of Finale 2014.5 support folders in /Library/Application Support/MakeMusic. (The top level Library folder.) Then, check that the User Library folders of the same name have been copied over to the parallel location in the User Library. (NB: only copy Audio Units Support, Configuration Files, Finale script, Font Annotation, Libraries, MIDI Device Annotation, and Music Files.) Make sure you haven't copied over any old plug-ins from previous versions.
If you want to post the crash log here (as a .txt file attachment, rather than just pasted into the thread), I'd be happy to have a look at it.
If it's any consolation, I usually find that 5 minutes after I've complained to a company about their software not working, I figure out the cause and get it working again. "This is me helping."
