Hi. I am a UK home user, wanting to use SM to help me develop my accompanied playing and my scales and exercise on alto Sax.

I like SM a lot and am impressed by the capabilities and general user-friendliness.

I have a query about the use of PrintMusic rather than Finale for the creation of my own files.

I wish to make exercises for the Alto Sax that correspond to the UK Board grades. Can I do that within PrintMusic ? It doesn't have the Wizard and seems not to offer me any choices. I'd rather not buy Finale as I don't really need all the functionality it  offers.

Similarly, is there a way I can import the PrintMusic 'human playback' element into the SmartMusic file I create ?

Any help appreciated.
thanks very much

AndyZ,

PrintMusic 2004 can create basic SmartMusic Accompaniment files. It doesn't have the Wizard to set things up for fancy things like repeats, breath marks, wait for notes, etc, but for exercises, it should be just fine. Create the file as a notation file, then choose Save As Smart Music Accompaniment from the File Menu. The Human Playback will be included as part of the accompaniment file.

Thanks Carla, I shall try that.

Does it adopt any particualt Human PLayback Style (Jazz, Baroque etc) or is it just a general default 'humanity'.

I have tried your suggestion, which did create me an SMP file which could be played in Smartmusic as an accompanniment, I wa sactually wanting to create an Exercise additional to the ones you supply. My reason for wanting this rather thanthe accompanniment is the Assessment feature and the loop up by a fifth, which supply exactly what i need. Can this be done from Print Music or do i need to upgrade ? or is it not possible at all ?

Advice welcomed

Andy

For the assessment feature, you would need to upgrade to Allegro 2005 or Finale 2005.

SmartMusic would use whichever Human Playback style (Standard, Jazz, Romantic, Baroque, etc.) you chose in the original notation file.
