If you use Audacity much, there's another reason to hold off on Win10. Audacity isn't suporting the new OS yet, and one of the symptoms is that it may not be able to recognize any audio
equipment. If your motherboard mfr has Win10 updates, you may be able to get it to work. Mine (Asus) doesn't.

Generally, Microsoft has generic drivers when there's nothing else. And Windows has a habit of using those first, if given the chance. Both of my motherboards have built-in audio and the interface by which many options are available, including the ability to record directly from any program outputting audio to recording software such as Audacity. However, the Windows generic driver has this option conspicuously missing. The reason? To thwart recording of copy-protected audio. They assume that all use of internal recording is nefarious. Poor assumption.

I'm using Audacity with Windows 10 just fine. I've been recording WAV files in Finale and bringing them into Audacity to normalize them and create mp3s as usual. I can also record ("what you hear") just fine in Finale directly to Audacity and other sources. My hardware is listed below.

Strange. This is the first audio software I've found that doesn't work with Win10.

Audacity is working for me with built-in Realtek audio on my Asus motherboard. My USB mic is also working fine.

I posted this in an earlier thread:

I upgraded to W10 and it went smoothly except that Audacity couldn't find any devices even though other programs could play music/sounds. After trying a (re) install of Audacity but using the latest version which did not work I went into Device Manager and selected my onboard sound device Properties which showed the drivers were up to date and fine. I uninstalled the drivers and ticked the box to delete them or whatever it says. Rebooted the PC and on restart it automatically went and reinstalled the drivers and fixed the problem.

There was a bit of clue in the Events tab in the properties it indicated that the drivers were not completely installed...
