When I listen to some of my students' assignments, I only hear the accompaniment. I see their score and the red and green notes, but I can't hear them. Sometimes, I turn my balance all the way to 1 speaker or the other and I hear just the instrument softly. However, with some kids, I don't hear them at all no matter what I do. Is there something I can tell them to do to fix this or is there something I can do on my end? I already suggested to them to lower the accomp and raise their mic levels on their programs. Thanks!

Ron,

Unfortunately, when the students balance/rebalance their recordings, those changes they make aren't preserved. You're coming close to the answer; it's split into different channels. If you use headphones, it usually resolves the problem you're encountering. Otherwise, as you've seen you can shift to the one speaker and increase the volume to compensate.

We are looking at different ways to do this in the upcoming version of SmartMusic so you don't have to do things to work around this, but it will require a new version of the program (not one of the quick patches we've been releasing behind-the-scenes).

Thanks,

James Lund
