I have a Creative Audigy 2 Platnum soundcard. I have been beating my head againsed the wall trying to use soundfonts for quite some time now. So far as I can tell: everything is in fine working order. I have been to just about every site in the web pertaining using soundfonts w/ finale and soundfonts in general. No one at Finale was willing to help me..and the folks at creative, well lets just say I wouldn't trust them to sit the right way on a toilet.....
I have Finale 2003, if that helps anyone in a response.
I've loaded the soundfonts into the card OK. And Finale plays the regular midi OK. But no soundfonts. I have about $400 of soundfonts commin' my way over the next week and I'm gonna have to use the discs as coasters if I don't figure this mess out soon! I have a learning disability, so I have a tough time w/ more 'technical' things from time to time.... but  this is all, as far as I can tell, due to a lack of propper documentation on Finale's part.
If any of you helpful, smart and 'goodlooking' people out there wouldn't  mind helping me I would be forever greatful....yes, I am kissing up to you all...
thanks in advance,
Dickie
PS. Great new Forum BTW.

It's been a while since I did this. Using Finale 2000 a few years ago I purchased a new soundfont library. I had the SB LIVE soundcard installed. I had to read through Creative's SB documentation on how to install the soundfont. In windows (I don't remember exactly where) I switched the generic GM files with the new soundfont files. Finale played back whatever was assigned to the GM sounds.

I feel your pain. I went for months bouncing back and forth between SoundBlaster and Makemusic and no one told me what I needed to know. If you have the sound fonts loaded on the card then you are almost there. In Finale (it's been a few months now since I used Finale 2003), you have to select the soundcard bank for output. Then in Finale, where instruments are designated, you need to select "B" (in one of the columns near the right hand side)--and that should give you a menu where you can select what bank and slot to assign to that instrument. It worked like a charm for me, but I've become enamoured of Finale 2004 built-in soundfonts.
One catch, if you export midi, then almost every instrument turns into a grand piano.
I am at work at the moment where I do not have Finale installed, but I can check it out when I get home and fill you in on more details if needed.
Good luck,
Ron

I have used soundfonts and soundblaster cards since the AWE32, passing through the original SBLive! card and now using Audigy Platinum.

I've never had a problem -- use the soundfont loader in the Creative control panel to load soundfonts into the soundcard. If you are trying to load other sounds ontop of a GM basic soundbank, you will need to use the bank/patch numbers in Finale, but if you are simply loading a better GM soundfont you're all set. You need to pay attention to be sure you are loading your soundfont in to either SynthA or SynthB of the Audigy, so you can select the appropriate output device in your midi devices dialogue.

Then be sure to select the appropriate synth (A or B, NOT the CreativeSW synth, and NOT the Audigy Midi Out port).

I've never had a problem using Finale in this manner. Have you run midi output from other programs such as a sequencer through your Audigy card so you're sure you have the soundfonts loaded correctly? Is it really a Finale problem or could it be an Audigy problem? I will be glad to offer further assistance, feel free to e-mail me off-forum if you wish: dhbailey@davidbaileymusicstudio.com and I'll see what I can do to help.
