Hello,

Is it possible to set a stroke, in particular a stroke size, to a font character in Finale?
I would like to make some characters slightly thicker, but I would like "Export to EPS" to pick up the thicker character too. Unfortunately, the characters I would like to change don't have a "bold" font associated with them.

Thanks.

No. Generally, merely increasing the stroke width of a typeface does not work well to create a bold version in any case.

What is the font and what are the characters? You might be better off editing the EPS in Illustrator or similar afterwards.

Hi Wiggy. I agree that increasing the stroke size is not the best solution but it would work in my case. However, wthin Finale, I did not see a way to increase the stroke size.

The font is...Maestro. Some of the default chord suffixes are quite thin. I suppose I could edit the EPS afterwards but I am not too keen on such fixes, especially in terms of keeping track of them in case there is a change in the original file.

One of the characters is the "+" sign for the augmented chord suffix. What's strange is that in a Finale Default Document, the default chosen font for that character is Maestro 16 Bold, yet there is no Bold version of the Maestro font. Is it the same for other users?

On Finale 2014 running on Windows 7 it says Maestro 16 plain.

Thanks Jari. In Finale 2007, it says Maestro 16pt Bold and when I export as EPS, I get something quite thin, which must be Maestro 16pt plain, since there is no Maestro 16pt Bold font that comes with Finale. I might swap it out with MaestroTimes Bold (this font comes with Finale) and adjust the character's size and position to match.
I am seeing other issues with default chord suffixes too (inconsistent spacing)...

Somewhat related to this issue.
In Finale 2007, in Chord Definition window, I can edit fretboard styles by clicking on Edit Styles. This open the Fretboard Styles dialogue window, where there is a default cross (X) to represent muted strings. When I go to Fonts & Shapes in this dialogue window, a new window pops up: Fretboard Styles Fonts and Shapes. In this window, I can select a variety of attributes for fretboard notation, one of them being the symbol used for muted strings. Selecting the Muted String option opens the Fretboard Muted String Shape Selection. For me, the default selection appears to be symbol 10 which is part of a curly bracket (the box for that symbol is blackened as if it was selected) - this is unlikely though! There are other symbols here and one of them is the aforementioned cross (X), which is marked as symbol 17. My guess is that this is the actual default selection for muted string X. However, if I select the X symbol, I notice that the corresponding symbol changes on my chord diagrams!! It moves in coordinates and also appears to be slightly thicker.

1- If this latter X (symbol 17) is the default symbol for the muted string, then why do instances of X move on a fretboard and appear be thicker?
2- If this latter X is not the default symbol for the muted string, then how do I access the default symbol?
