I'm using PrintMusic 2011 to transcribe some solo a cappella singing. Some of the vocal lines aren't sung, but spoken (much like rapping). I've been using rhythmic notation to indicate the spoken bits, which is ok, I suppose...but I'd love to be able to have the line on the page more accurately reflect the highs and lows of the spoken pitches. Does anyone know of a way to take a melody (which has been created using simple entry) and change the standard note heads to x's?

Thanks!

Thanks for your reply, Bill. Unfortunately, no.. PrintMusic has no such tool. Does Finale? If so, perhaps I should consider an upgrade...

That's how I would do it in Finale, but there are others here who are experts in PrintMusic who may be able to suggest a solution for you.

The only way I can come up with (short of getting a finale doc that has the X-noteheads staff style) is to use the text tool. Set the font for Maestro Wide, and use Text>Insets>Symbol... to select numbers 92 and 192. Move them into position. I increased the size to 18, but you can decide that.

Unfortunately, you would have to do this for each one. There is no way to group copy and paste the text inserts.

The other option would be a font editor, where you could create your own symbol, and enter it as an expression.

I had the same problem. I have solved it by creating a second line of music for cymbals with the rhythm only - using the up-down arrows will give you x notes where you want them.

Hope this helps.
