Good afternoon everyone!

Today I’m pleased to announce that the new Finale is now available, both as a download and a USB drive. As I’ve hinted at over the last few months, some of the highlights of the new release include 64-bit support, additional Garritan sounds, transposed instrument entry, ReWire support, significant streamlining, and more.

We have also updated finalemusic.com. If you currently own Finale, please check out the what's new page to see what this upgrade offers you. If you want to give it a spin, the Free 30-Day Trial is ready to go.
The upgrade price is still just $149. Or, if you are using another pro-level notation product and want to own Finale too, our competitive upgrade is just $149 as well.

Sounds good.

> 64-bit support

I think it's worth emphasizing that it's 64-bit only. Those with 32-bit systems cannot upgrade to this version.

Intel has been making 64-bit CPUs for the last ten years. How many people are still running hardware older than that?

I tried to purchase it, but none of my credit cards would work. I am looking forward to a couple of features in the new version. So I will try the 30 day free trial. So who do we inform that their checkout process is not working?

Yeah, I think I'm gonna skip this one. Protest non-purchase due to MM's cave on the PDF issue. Same reason I no long perform nor purchase any music by John Mackey or Ticheli.

Since I rely on 3rd party plugins quite a bit, I suppose v25 won't be of much use until those are also updated. Does v25 have the TGTools Lite set?

Yes, it does. As these are always updated with each release, at a different timetable to the paid-for ones, I would presume that MM looks after the source code for the TG Lite plug-ins; also those by Jari that are bundled with Finale, like System Spacing. (And indeed Patterson Beams.)

A lot of people are running 32-bit Windows on the 64- bit capable hardware and it won't handle 64 bit applications directly. You can upgrade the OS but you have to ensure there are 64 bit drivers available for your possibly older devices.

Any update as to whether the number of active frames allowed in a file are allowed were increased past the current 32k~ limit?

When I asked the Facebook chatbot I got a complete non-answer.

If the composer says in effect to the performer: "I do not care whether you perform my music or not," we cannot argue the matter. But if he indicates: "I want you to perform and respond to this music," then his fundamental duty is to write his music so that it is accessible to interpretation. When the performer cannot approach the composer's meaning because of capriciously obscure notation, he may in effect say to the composer: "Why should I bother to puzzle out your music?" - Gardner Read

It looks like the answer is no, according to this:

www.sibeliusblog.com/news/makemusic-releases-version-25-of-finale/

Probably ints are still 32 bits.

If v25 is a new and separate program, why is it popping up in 2014.5 as a new 2014.5 update? That doesn't make sense. It says it is version 6858 for 2014.5.

So, the automatic update feature for 2014.5 has some errors in it.

The "significant streamlining" link up top goes to an error page.

The error is obviously streamlined enough, then. ;)

Like every version, that's a decision only you can evaluate for your needs. Would ReWire be useful to you? Do you need dashed slurs? Is the improved performance and 64-bitness of interest?
Are any of the many bug fixes a source of relief? Do you work with large time signatures? Are the extra Garritan sounds useful? Does correct playback of transposing instruments fill you with joy?

You can of course download the demo and test it, to see whether anything excites you to a value of $149.

Exactly! I should have downloaded the trial version first, but (out of habit, I suppose, having always faithfully upgraded for some 15-20 years now...) I had downloaded Finale v25. This version, however, does unfortunately nothing to improve my playback needs, workflow or creation of scores and parts (everything I need to do I can do perfectly well in 2014.5, even in 2012). After playing around with it for a few hours (of course with all my shortcuts, scripts and adjustments not in place anymore) I uninstalled, asked for (and got) my money back. Try it out first!
