One way is to erase it with the Simple Entry eraser.

Funny, I've been using Finale for many years and never used the eraser.

I'm using 2012, but you can erase the cautionary accidental in speedy by placing the cursor on the note and pressing P. You don't have to have the crosshairs on the notehead.

Discovered it by accident only a few weeks ago!
Had been using speedy and * before.

Thanks, Andrew. A good catch that will help me, too!

Is it a bad memory, or do I remember older versions where the P key cycled accidental, accidental with parentheses, and accidental off?

Now it just parentheses on/off.

I use A in speedy (which toggles the cautionary on and off) because it won't remove a real accidental, whereas * will (very bad).

In Simple Entry, just press P a second time to remove the parenthesis. If you want to remove an unnecessary accidental altogether, Command shift Hyphen.

Thanks, Wiggy. That's the one I can never remember! (Not particularly intuitive.)

AHA! I couldn't get that shortcut to work, until I went through the Simple Entry Keyboard shortcuts. I had already reprogrammed Remove Courtesy Accidental to CTRL+P, keeping all those commands on the P key.

Man's got a mind like a steel sieve...
