I'm trying to set up single line solo exercises the same way they come loaded from SmartMusic i.e. I want to have a single file which a student can then pick their particular instrument, but not have it transposed into their key. So an exercise in C Major is seen in C by all the instruments regardless of their transpositions. I've tried a couple ways, but it comes out transposed into different keys for each instrument once it's loaded into SmarMusic.
Thanks!

BTW just upgraded from Finale 2004 and have a copy of SM that's about the same age--what a difference 7 years makes. Really liking it so far!

Okay, figured that out--now I need to know how to get SM to observe the four measures per staff I've set up in Finale.
Thanks.

Robert,

Thanks for writing! If the SMP file is not displaying correctly, that is something we will need to test in those specific files. Please Submit a Support case at smartmusic.custhelp.com/app/ and attach the SMP file and the MUS file which generated it.

Thanks,

Hi Travis,

Thanks for responding; I actually found a function in the Finale export dialog that allowed me to define how the measures are displayed--it's working.

I was having the same transposition issues when assigning for example a C Major Scale to my whole band. The C instruments got the C scale. Everybody else got transposed keys. You say you figured this out. Details would be awesome!

In Finale it's a function of the staff tool, select the staff tool, click on individual staves (is that an oxymoron?), when the dialog box opens look for "Independent Elements" and check Key Signature-it decouples each staff from the scores key signature, allowing you to make each instrument read in C.

I'm still having issues. It was reading the measures per staff formatting, but now it's not. Plus my slurs are completely wacky--which may be partially because of the reformatting. Plus, now it intermittantly reads the entire score, allowing the student to choose their instrument--and then it only shows up as Flute (top of my woodwind scores). It's going to be great when I debug all the little quirks.

Best,
Robert
