Hi all,

Maybe someone in the Finale universe can help me understand what's going on here. I formatted this piece for children's choir, using Quattrocentro as the font for the lyrics and tempo indications:

...and you can see the train wreck that ensued.

I know someone is going to recommend that I just don't use Quattrocentro (I assume that's the problem, since I've never had this happen until I used that font). But I really like the font, and I'd like to have the ability to give my pieces a distinct look.

IS the font the problem? If so, why? And is there a way around it?

Thanks in advance!

-- Dan

I get a "404" error when I click on your link. Maybe you can attach the file here?

I did not have the Quattrocen[r/sic]to font, so I downloaded and installed it.  I then downloaded your MUS document.  I was able to open it in Fin2012, and then I had to go and change the font for all text blocks, lyrics, and tempo indications.  I did not seem to have any problem, thought the font seems a bit thin to me without bolding it.

Charles,

It worked for me, too... initially. I printed the file to PDF (which I still have, fortunately) and was able to print and distribute it to my children's choir.

But then I opened up the Finale file and it had turned to a garbled mess. SEE ATTACHED PDF. So it looked normal for you??

I'm so confused...

Fonts are difficult to make, and free fonts are often worth what you pay for them. There doesn't seem to be anything particularly individual about Quattrocento: it looks like a pretty ordinary sans face -- you could use one of the sans faces that come with your computer instead if this one is causing a problem.
I would advise that serif faces are possibly easier to read for lyrics. At a small size, the serifs give extra clues for quick identification.

I agree with you about sans not being ideal, but Quattrocento isn't sans. There is a sans version, but I was using the serif one: https://www.google.com/fonts/specimen/Quattrocento

Quattrocento is pretty distinct to my eyes. It's well-crafted and fairly well-established on the web. I know I could use a different font, but the point of my OP is to figure out how this happened. Why the gobbledygook? Is it a font compatibility problem?

Mmkay, I uninstalled Quattrocento and the Finale file fixed itself... then I reinstalled the font and it worked fine.

cool

Still wondering what happened, but... equilibrium has been restored. If anyone can suggest a reason for the jumble, I'd be interested.

Thanks.
