Hi SmartMusic Gurus,

I'm creating improv exercises for my jazz classes. I'm using Finale 2012 and SmartMusic 17.o.ob50 (2013).

I'm very happy with how I can create an exercise, create backing tracks in Band in a Box and paste them into the score, set up SmartMusic repeats, and set up SmartMusic assessment to hone in on the swing feel of the head.

That's all working great when I import the smp file into SmartMusic.

The one thing I cannot figure out -- and forgive me if the answer is lurking here in a forum and my searches have just not revealed the answer to me -- is this: How can I create slash notation for solo improv sections in Finale and have it appear in the SmartMusic display? I've tried Utilities > Change > Noteheads (used this on notes I added to each stave), and I've tried Staff > Apply Staff Styles to > Current staff or score (used this on empty measures), and in each case the result is great in Finale, but when imported into SmartMusic, the slashes disappear, or they appear only inconsistently.

There must be a step I'm missing. Please let me know what works for you!

Thanks!

Ernie
