So I have absolutely no idea how to do this. I've searched literally everywhere but I can't manage to figure out how to get it to work. I have a bunch of .sfx articulations that I want to use for an instrument but I don't know how to add them. I'm using Finale 2014. It would be helpful if everything was explained step by step, I don't find the Finale manual to be that helpful since I'm more of a "newb".

This page from the manual is a good place to start:

http://www.finalemusic.com/UserManuals/Finale2014Win/Content/Finale/DYDMPDLG.htm

P.S.: That is actually lame. I'll find a page with better instructions other than changing a MIDI channel. Who writes this stuff? They totally omitted all the important information. I'll be back.

This is what I was looking for:

http://www.finalemusic.com/UserManuals/Finale2014Win/Content/Finale/GIFF.htm?Highlight=keyswitches as data dump

The instructions for data dump are near the bottom of the page.

Don't forget this option as well as a way of accessing some keyswitches that is a bit more intuitive.

That is where the manual directs one to create the keyswitch trigger. The item in the list called Dump is what is selected to create a data dump that triggers a keyswitch.

P.S.: In the top box enter 3, then in the next three boxes: 144, KS #, 127.

If you happen to own any VSL (Vienna Symphonic Library) product, you have access to a Finale Library file with pretty much a complete set of such Data Dumps. Gives you an additional expression category named Key Switches, ready to use. Although targeted at their own libraries it can be used with any. ( Beware that using manual KSes easily can (but not necessarily) confuse Human Playback... )

(Finale 1.0 (1988) -> 2014d) using 2012c (on Win since 1997)
Cubase 8 Pro & Reaper - Vienna Ensemble Pro - Ircam SPAT - Hauptwerk 4
Libraries: VSL, Spitfire, Orchestral Tools, Xsample, Embertone, Sample Modeling, EWQL +++
Garritan Steinway - Garritan CFX pianos
