For whatever reason, it was never fixed in any updates.
The problem relates to the fact that the 5th string starts at the 5th fret. Standard practice is to number the frets of the 5th string 0 (open), and then number the frets on that string so they match the other four strings. That means that in standard tuning the 5th string tab goes, 0, 6, 7, 8, etc. Sometimes it's capoed independently of the other four strings at the 7th fret. In that case the fretted notes on that string would go 0, 8, 9, 10, etc.
Has this been fixed in Finale 2007?

If they're not allowed to reply to questions like this, and if you're not ordering the update, I'll be glad to check it for you when I get my copy.

P.S.: The attached file is in 2005b, but the workaround, I believe, shows what can be done. If not, then never mind.
P.P.S.: Had I read the original post carefully, and looked at the other thread, I would have saved the trouble of my workaround. It is a different approach, anyway. Oh well.

I can see that you made the 5th string a D instead of a G so that it shows the correct fret above the peg, but I can't figure out how you made the open fifth string sound a G.

The problem: The 5th string is short, and can't be fretted below the 5th fret (see attached JPEG). Finale tablature starts counting from the nut, so a barre at the 6th fret, which should look like this:
6 6 6 6 6
looks like this in tablature:
6 6 6 6 1
The fifth string is played open almost all the time, so it's a matter of changing the '1' to a '6'.
Two solutions:
Solution 1 (Peter Thomsen): Mask the '1' with a '6' entered as a note expression. In the Shape Designer place a rectangle behind the '6', fill the rectangle with white, and make the rectangle's line thickness zero.
Solution 2 (Zuill): Special Tools Tool > Note Shape Tool Replace the standard (Maestro) notehead with a '6' in Times New Roman 11. Adjust the Vertical positioning by -3 Points.

My update: I hadn't looked for posts for a while, nor have I bought 2007. Last summer I tried repeatedly to get a rep identified as Mike to tell me whether the development team was (a) aware of the problem and (b) going to try to fix it. I asked at least five times and each time, no matter how clearly and specifically I asked my questions Mike replied that he didn't have test copy yet. Each time I made it absolutely clear that I wasn't asking if it *had* been fixed, only were they *aware* and planning to *try* to fix it. Eventually it became clear that Mike was playing games and that no matter how I asked the question he was going to ignore it.
Finally I got in touch with a Support Team Leader named Phil who gave straight answers. He wrote.
Phil said... The development team is aware of this issue. While I cannot speak to how difficult this is to fix, I am told it is actually not as easy as it seems. Really it comes down to manpower. We have a rather limited development department as far as numbers are concerned. We are always stuck between the rock of producing new features, and the hard place of fixing past problems. What we try to do is do a little bit of each. This happened to be pickup measure's year for past issues fixed as well as some augmentation dot issues. We do hope to get to the Tab staff soon. The best way to get this higher on the list is by doing exactly what you are doing now. Reporting the issue will only make it more important in our eyes.
I appreciated Phil’s candor and told him so. While the message was disappointing it was at least refreshing to get honest answers. As to Mike, they should get him out of customer service, fast!
In the end though, what does it say when users report the same bug literally for years, and the corporate decision is to do nothing? I have used Finale since v1.0 but I won't be buying "upgrades" any time soon.
