Date Joined Jan 2011 Total Posts : 238 | Posted 11/23/2016 5:03 PM (GMT -6) | | I've got a 5/4 measure followed by a 3/2 measure, with notes in layer 2 but nothing in layer 2. I want whole note rests in both measures in layer 1. I swear the program used to do this default in earlier versions...
I've followed the steps from a thread posted this past February, to press "7" in Simple Entry, but I"m getting the same result: a whole note and quarter note rest in the 5/4, and six quarter note rests in the 3/2 measure.

Date Joined Nov 2002 Total Posts : 3991 | Posted 11/23/2016 6:23 PM (GMT -6) | | You might also uncheck "Check for Extra Notes". If you do this, then Save Preferences, the feature will be turned off in between Finale sessions.

And the "Fill with rests" was the issue, I'd forgotten.

In the 5/4 measure that has a whole rest and a quarter rest, just use the Select Tool to select the measure and clear the entries by pressing Backspace. The same goes for the 3/2 measure. Just clear the entries. If you need real whole rests instead of the default place holder rests, e.g. to place a fermata on the rest, then do as Wiggy says and convert them using the plug-in. "Anything is possible if you don't know what you are talking about!"
