What can I add to a script to make it close as soon as it has run - in other words, so the Finalescript window doesn't stay on the screen?

I don't think there is one, but you can create a shortcut (ex: CTRL+ALT+L) to the script/or mark it to appear in the menu so you start it by clicking on it, and in the Finale script Options check the "Don't show Palette when calling a script from the menu".
