I am somewhat pleased with Allegro's MIDI editing capabilities, however I would like to have seen one more feature added:
The ability to set the left/right balance (I think the MIDI standard calls it position) for each staff.
With this feature I could create "Practice CDs" for my vocal group. I could create 4 copies of the same song, each with one of the 4 parts in the right ear, and all the others in the left ear. This allows a performer to practice hearing only their part, hearing their part with the others, and hearing the other parts minus their own, with the use of the balance dial on their CD Player.

Nathan,
It has been some time since I used Allegro, but I think you can do what you want.
Here is the way it works in Finale, and I think Allegro should be similar or the same. The MIDI term for stereo effect is Pan.
From the MIDI Tool drop down list, select Edit Continuous Data. Select Controller Number 10, Pan. Now highlight a staff, get the MIDI Tool drop down list again, and set to 0 for extreme left, 64 for middle, or 127 for extreme right.

I can't seem to get the Pan to work correctly.
When I try to set the Pan for one staff all of the other staffs get set to the same setting. Do i have to do something with layers?

I believe it would apply to any staves that are on the same channel. Open the instrument list and set each staff to a different channel, and it should work fine.

I believe Paul is correct. It sounds like you have all of the staves/voices/instruments assigned to the same MIDI channel.

In response to Ev's question, yes you can use the MIDISCAN feature of PrintMusic to scan in music.
