It is rather big orchestral score (some pages with about 40 staves) and there is much copying and pasting there (we have to compose the score from different sources). After some week of work the text expressions Selection window began to behave strangely. We can create a new expression, but after saving and reopening of the file we have actually an empty line on its position. If we have a couple of new "empty" expressions like this, and we create some new one, all of them change their text to this new one.
I tried to find out what happens and analysed the exported .etf file. I found that in the file there is 32767 ^expression items (!). (They don't show themselves in the Selction window, of course.) In the template we used for this score we had about 160 expressions. Then I've found the reason: if I copy end paste some music (cmd+c, cmd v), the expressions are replicating. Even the measure expressions which are attached to different staves, which wasn't selected at all by Mass Copy tool! (If you copy the music by draging with the mouse, expressions don't replicate.)
Is MM aware of this nasty behavior?
Is there a solution to "purify" such congested file?
By the way, I tried to see if Finale 2007 has the same problem, but I was consternated, that the function Save As ETF File was leaved out in 2007. It is not for the first time that MM just omit feature without warning the users. I was absolutely disgusted they removed the possibility to save as SmartMusic accompaniment from PrintMusic 2004 (in 2002 it was possible). I thought, the people upgrade, because the software is getting better, not because it is getting different :-(
