Hey all - I had a very simple Finalescript that I use regularly when working with vocal music. It changes regular pitched noteheads to small "x"s to indicate the lyric is spoken. It worked fine on Finale 2009, but when I moved the exact same script to 2011, it no longer works. The problem is that the "near" command is no longer being interpreted correctly and the wrong "selected noteheads" radio button is being selected. From there, the rest of the script won't work correctly of course. The original script is as follows:

menu item "Utilities/Change/Noteheads"
check "Selected Notehead:" near "Change To:"
button "Select..." near "Change To:"
press shift option "/"
ctrl return
ctrl return

The problem is that, in 2011, this script insists on selecting the "Selected Notehead:" radio button in the first half of the window rather than the one at the bottom which is near "change to". I've tried numerous other "near" possibilities including near "Ok" or near "cancel", but nothing works.

Any thoughts on how to fix this? Also, any thoughts on why this worked flawlessly in 2009 and now tanks in 2011?

Thanks!

Have you tried "BELLOW" as a proximity definer?
If not, try NEAR "REGULAR NOTEHEADS" since is a unique text in that window, and is closer to the selection you want.

Thanks for the thoughts, but I've tried near "regular noteheads" an the result is the same, it chooses the incorrect radio button. I had not tried "below" but the result is the same. What is most puzzling about this is that NOTHING has changed about this window from Finale 2009 where my script worked perfectly, but in 2011, it fails. Seems like there might be a glitch. Has anybody experienced a failure of the "near" command in this way?

I'm with you Michael. NEAR is not working for me also. In the staff attributes box, clicking the "Edit" button NEAR "Staff" (to change the abbreviated name) has worked flawlessly in the past but not with 2011. I'm even finding problems with pull-down menus not working like they use to. Either of these can lock up my machine and I cannot do anything without attempting to force quit (but I don't, I just bring up the dialog box) which then unlocks my machine allowing me to cancel out of whatever state Finalescript left in it's attempt to do something.

Thanks - at least good to know I'm not the only one. I just submitted a question to the Finale technical support folks and will see if they have any knowledge of the problem or how to fix it.

Meanwhile try copying the older Finalescript from 2009 and put it in the 2011 folder, and see if it's a Finalescript error or something about the windows has changed.

FYI, I got a response from Finale tech support today as follows:

"We are aware of this problem and working on fixing it. I wish I had a work around for you at this time, but because of the changes made on the Mac OS to the dialogue boxes, this is something that, unfortunately, isn't working correctly at the moment.

So, at the very least, there is nothing we can do so we can stop trying and wait and hope! :)
