Is anyone else having trouble changing the tempo for each beat within a measure? The arrows won't work for me, so I can't change each beat's tempo. This is with 2014.5.

I don't use the Metronome Tool. I create non-printing expressions to control the tempo.

I am not sure the Tempo Tool allows you to set a different tempo for each beat. However, it still works the way it always has for me. I tend to prefer the MIDI Tool as it is easier to work with, and the result is basically the same. I avoid hidden expressions for tempo as with HP, there isn't as much control over the behavior of tempo, especially when it comes to rit. and accel.

Sorry, it is called the Tempo Tool (my error). Within the tempo adjustment window, which opens when a particular measure is clicked, at the top of the window you see "Unit" with an up and down arrow. When you clicked on the up arrow, you used to be able to set the tempo to a new number as it would change to a different "unit" and you could change the beat of the measure, artificially producing rits. and accels. I'm aware there are other ways to change tempos, but for some reason the arrows next to "unit" in this window will not change anymore. Am I clear?

Its been so long since I used the tool. I forgot about the units. I use the MIDI Tool for tempo changes. Is there something that is easier to do with the Tempo Tool that the MIDI Tool can't do as easily?

I'm just wondering if anyone else can try it and get it to work.

It must be a Mac issue, as it works okay in Windows. I would report it to support.

I submitted the problem to MM and this is their reply:

Thanks for contacting MakeMusic Customer Success. It appears that this may be a bug, as I'm able to reproduce it on my end. I'll write this up and submit to product management for review.

In the meantime, I'd recommend using the MIDI Tool to manually apply tempo data, which will give you the same results as the Tempo Tool.

Please feel free to respond to this case if you have any further questions about this issue.

The MIDI Tool can be faster for most of these types of operations. For rit. or accel. I just highlight the region and use Scale. However, this is a straight line gradual adjustment. I'm not sure if other types of options are available.

I used it for the first time the other day. It was a little mysterious but I finally got it to work--I needed the "play continuous data" option. I think I turned this off in the distant past because somehow I was getting key velocities recorded with step-time entry and I unchecked all the MIDI stuff in disgust.

The "percent" option of scale didn't seem to work for me, so I just gave it a starting and ending metronome mark. If you run it again on the same spot the current numbers aren't shown, which violates some kind of UI expectation. I guess the MIDI data is visibile somewhere?

Double click the measure. You see it in graph form. Not as good as having precise numbers. If you run your mouse over the start and end points, on the left you can see what the values are as there is a dotted line cursor of sorts.

Thanks. I found that after double clicking, as you change what you edit in the MIDI Tool menu, different graphs appear. The dotted lines on the left just seem to reflect the cursor position. But playing with a default document, I can never get it to go past measure 11. If I double click measure 28, I get measures 8-11. Seems broken. How do you make the graph go away so you can get back to selecting measures, other than leaving the tool, by the way?

I tried changing tempo with Scale/percent of original and it also seems completely broken, but that's OK, I guess. Perhaps I'm misunderstanding what it's supposed to do.

The graph works better in Scroll View. It seems useless in Page View, unless there's some way in the graph itself to move around.

I'm a little late in the day here as I just updated last week -- I am having the exact same issue as CWillCalho -- the "unit" up/down arrows are non-functional -- did you ever get any word from MM on it being fixed? Have never tried the MIDI tool for tempo adjustments within a bar but about to give it a shot. Thanks!

Have you tried using the MIDI Tool for what you are doing? Also, don't forget the Tempo Tap feature available in Studio View. That is a way to apply real time tempo data that sometimes is faster to accomplish. Maybe not as precise, but possibly more realistic. All the Tempo Tool does is enter MIDI tempo data in a step by step process. That can be done in the MIDI Tool. If you are trying to accomplish a rit or accel, there are MIDI Tool options not available in the Tempo Tool.
