Does anyone know why a Finale 2011 file should crash when saving it. It seems to get corrupted and then will not open again. Finale says that the file in question was too big to be a Finale file! That I do not understand. It was a string orchestra piece of about 17 minutes duration - 25 Mb I think (my computer is in repair for reformatting of HD!! at the moment) Has anyone experienced conflicts with Finale 2011 and OS X Lion 10.7.4? I am beginning to feel that going to Finale 2012 might be wise.

I have a new Mac Pro ( 3 months old) 3.2 GHz and lots of memory. I think the programme was Finale 2011b
Thanks, Brian

25 MB is HUGE for a Finale file. Somehting is up. Is it loaded with graphics? That might be the problem. Or maybe it has an audio track? Anyway, something is up to make a file that big. That might be the issue.

Thanks very much for responding promptly. There are no graphics in the file, just notes, except for the 3 first pages, which have a title page, inside page, and programme note page, all initially done as Word docs and then added as Tiff files via the graphics tool. I am just a composer, so do not understand this at all. finale have only asked me a question of whether it is an audio file, or PDF, but it is NOT those. So my computer must be doing something wrong. Can you offer any help, please. Thanks, Brian

Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh!!!!!!!! So, no graphics in the file except for the three enormous full-page TIFFs?

1: a full-page TIFF at a printable resolution is going to be massive, and that explains why your file is possible larger than Finale can cope with.

2: Because it's a bitmap image, it's still not going to be as crisp and sharp as a vector image, such as a PDF. I can't remember if 2011 can import PDFs: but even so, it's still not the optimal method, because:

3: You can insert Blank pages in Finale at the beginning of the piece with the Page Layout Tool, and enter text there.

4: Or, you can create a PDF of the Finale pages, and combine it with a PDF of the text pages using OS X's Preview app.

Dear Mr Wiggy, thanks for the explanation. Now I know that I shouldn't do that, and I will not any more, but when I asked Finale some time ago how to paste a title page document ( I keep a certain style title page for all my compositions) they said I had to use Tiff, and they didn't warn me about the size of the file. I wish they would have told me the potential problem. Ah well, if this is the cause then the solution is simple. I am very grateful for the help and advice, especially since I know very little about computers. As I said I am just a composer. Many, many thanks again for solving this (I hope) Brian.
