Tie/untie to next note = (equals) or T
Tie/untie to previous note option = (equals) or shift-T

This is by design.
Jim: if there is no repeat sign in the measure before the second ending, that might be the issue.

P.S.: There are situations (as in an ending following a "skip ahead" command), that won't have an actual repeat sign, but you still might need the backwards tie. There is a trick: put the repeat sign there (this then shows the tie) and then create a staff style to hide the repeat. Works like a charm, and should playback correctly (no guarantees here).

I wanted the lines to connect on the first ending brackets, and when I dragged it over, it never really lined up. So I deleted that ending, replaced it with an actual 1st ending, and it worked, except for one backwards tie that insisted on tieing to the last note in the first ending. I edited it with Special Tools, and it finally worked out ok. Molecular Computer, Powered by Fusion in a Jar.
