Hi, there.

I am trying to export a MIDI file from Finale, intending to import it to SONAR X2.

Exported MIDI file in format 1, and imported the MIDI file to SONAR.

The notes and expression data were successfully imported, but there is no Tempo information observed in Tempo track of SONAR.

I have tried to export another file by choosing Tempo Map and import it into SONAR but with no success.

I used to have many times successfully transferred all the tempo data from Finale to SONAR, so that some parameter should be wrong.

Any input will be highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Sincerely,

Jun Yamamoto

You may need to Apply Human Playback before exporting. This is at the bottom of the MIDI Tool's menu (in Finale 25).

Thank you Dr. Wiggy.

Yes. I applied Human Playback (Standard).

BTW, I am using Finale 2012 on Windows 7.

Sincerely,

It's hard to tell without seeing and testing either the Finale file itself or the MIDI file.

Jun,

I opened up your midi file in Logic, and all of the tempo information is there.

I think your problem is with Sonar. In Logic, if I import a midi file, the tempo info doesn't transfer from the midi file. But if I open the file instead of importing it, then the tempo info is there.

While I'm not directly familiar with Sonar, I do know that a couple of DAW setups I use have MIDI Import options that can strip out the tempo track during the importation process. Check for such options/preferences in your version of Sonar.

In addition to a plethora of MIDI importation options, all of the DAWs I'm experienced with also allow me to instantly 'toggle' between one or more master variable 'tempo tracks', or to lock everything to a single hard set metronome.

Thank you all.

I successfully "opened" the midi file by SONAR, instead of "import", and the tempo map has been correctly reflected.

I appreciate very much your help as always.

Sincerely,

Jun Yamamoto
