In what may well be my final post here, I just updated from 2014 to 25.2. It was not without drama, crashing on launch, but I finally got it to work. (Goodbye forever, Vienna Instruments!)

My question is, is there a way to tell Finale 25 to maintain window states?

I use 2 monitors, and in 2014 and 2014.5, when I open a document, the music is on the left monitor and my tool palettes are on the right.

There doesn't seem to be a way for 25.2 to retain that setting. When I open a document, everything is on the left monitor and I have to move my various palettes over to the right one. Except for playback controls, which for some reason stays in place on the right monitor.

Anyone have any insight into this? I didn't see anything about this in Preferences, and the Save Preferences option in the File menu doesn't seem to have any effect on this.

Thanks,

Gary

On Windows, probably on Mac too, but I don't know, there is Preferences->View->Save/Load Window States.

Tragically, that's not an option on the Mac.

Do you have the monitors as one big Desktop, or each as two separate ones? If one big one, then the windows should just remember their positions.
If two, then you might want to assign Finale to one of the Desktops. (Right-click on the Dock icon).

A good suggestion, Herr Doktor, but alas, that didn't work either.

I guess it's just going to be one of those annoyances, like the fact that no version of Finale since 2011 has shown any items for me in the File > open Recent menu, even though every single other application on my computer (and laptop) does.

Bizarre.

And now, I bid a very fond farewell to this forum, and as for the MakeMusic wonks who decided that they know what we want and need: May they all be stuck in traffic with no cell signals.

Recent Menu should work: sounds like your com.makemusic.finale.plist file might be corrupt. Find it (in ~/Library/Preferences) and destroy.
