I have just moved from using Sibelius and would like to know how I can copy an instrument to another stave throughout the whole score and then delete the original.
In Sibelius all you do is double click on the stave you want to copy right click and save andthen just click on the new instrument and you can delete a stave by double clicking on it and then deleting.
I can't seem to find how to do this in Finale can anyone tell me an easy way please
Thanks

Carla @ MakeMusic said...Click on the MassEdit Tool. Click to the left of the staff you want to copy to select every measure in that staff. Click in the measure and drag it to the staff you want to copy to. If you want to delete the original staff, click on the staff tool, click the staff, then hit delete. P.S. You may want to post on the main notation forums - either Mac or Windows. This forum is for the Finalescript plugin, which is a little more specialized than you really need at the beginning.
Carla,
What is the future of Finalescript? I am just coming around to using (and liking) it, but a few things don't seem to be implemented, and I am wondering why not. Could you please look at my post from today (Tuesday 3 Oct)?
Thanx...

I'm the documentation editor here at MakeMusic and was responsible (with Robert's help) for the Finalescript portion of the Finale User Manual. I've noticed some grumbling here on the forums and thought I'd ask...what did you find missing or inadequate about the Finalescript documentation? The list of available commands in the Appendix along with the general concept info and example scripts seem like an adequate amount of reference material for a tool like this. My suspician is that the limited number of commands is more of a frustration than the documentation. Let me know what you think - we're always anxious for any info that helps us improve the Finale doc.
Thanks! -Mark Johnson | Back to Top | |

At least as far as I am concerned, you are correct. I wonder why some things are possible and others not...please see above!

I agree with you. For me the doc is not really, what keeps me from using it. I would in fact even expect that a scripting feature needs some fiddeling and trial and error before you get it. For me, personally, it's - as you say - the lack of features that is slightly disappointing. Or to be more precise: It's the fact that it has not been developped any much since it came out and thus has left us with the feeling, that the concept has been abbandoned. I think many pro-users see a lot of potential in FS and would love to see it developped with new features every time, a new version comes out. If the concept by the time could be enlarged to incoporate ALL Finale-functions - imagine what a time-saver it could become!

Seeing an included script, looking at the appedix with all of the scripting choices displayed, it's up to the user to make it work for themselves. It's painfully obvious by the number of times I've read "How do I get part names to be displayed in linked parts?", that many users don't bother to read the documentation. A lot of users think that they'll just automatically know how to use a new feature. I think Finalescript falls into that category.
Whether MM includes a step-by-step guide to Finalescript, tutorials or completed scripts to examine, it doesn't matter which. There are many ways to learn things.
While I would love to see Finalescript expanded to give it more power, I use it at least once each day to automate some mundane task.
