After importing a scanned piece of simple music (only one stave) I am unable to make sense of (or correct) the complete measure number chaos. There seem to be invisible measures that I can't find or eliminate. Nothing in JW Measure Number tool seemed to work either. Any ideas ?? MANY THANKS

Hi

We might need more info/a look at the score in question.

One thing that I have noticed wih scanning music is that care must be taken to verify *everything*
There are several instances where measures contain an unusual number of notes.
You need to go through and check each measure for correctness, including looking for measures that have one or more barlines set as "invisible"

As I say, it might be an idea to post the file here.

Cheers...

I would copy the music into a freshly created template. That will straighten out the measure numbers and possibly strip out hidden errors, such as bad MIDI information.

Scanned music seems to have most trouble interpreting multiple layers on a staff (and therefore overstuffing a measure with notes. Knowing that may help you work out what is going wrong.

Thanks for the helpful advice. The problem came from the lousy scanning recognition - so many bars with extra notes, missing barlines etc. By the time I clean up the mess it actually takes a lot longer with the scanner than just entering the music with the keyboard - so that was my fix! Thanks again.

and yes, the original score had a lot of layers in each stave, and it was printed quite quite small, so it definitely wasn't the best type of music to scan ....
