It sometimes goes by the title "Oh Field, My Field". I'm trying to find out if it is public domain or not. I've checked the IMSLP website and found nothing. I've found plenty of info with lyrics and chords as well piano scores for sale by various arrangers but no information on whether the melody is public domain or not. Any thoughts? Thanks, Aric

If he used a folk song (which was probably pubic domain), the work became protected again in his specific arrangement. Any ideas who I would contact to obtain rights or where to start? Intel I7, 2.67GHz, 16 gigs RAM, Windows 8 pro 64 bit, Finale ? If it is, you are free to make you own original arrangement, not borrowing anything specific from Knipper's work. 2) you want to use some material from Knipper's arrangement as a basis for a new arrangement of yours. In this case, you need permission from the publisher. You should contact the Collecting Society of your own country to obtain the address of a possible sub-publisher in your country. I've searched data basses from the following resources: RAO (Russian Authors Society) which oversees the collection rights of authors and composers as well as the RAO (Russian Archives Online). I found nothing relating to the song title or the composer. Is there a public domain data base that I can check? I've checked IMSLB and found nothing. Anywhere else I can check? There is an international database which all Societies have access to. They receive questions like yours every day. I just checked their database for Lev Knipper or Polyrushko Polye under the RAO and there was nothing found, so I might be in the clear. I'll contact the RAO just in case. I've always wanted to cover it on the ukulele and do a YouTube vid.
cheers,

On JWPepper's website the piece has been published 30 times over the years through many publishers of various arrangements. Sometimes the publisher gives credit to the arranger and composer, sometimes they just give credit to the arranger and list the song is it as "Traditional".
