I'm having a problem with the page layout tool in Finale 2002. After I right-click a system margin and choose edit margins, a dialogue box appears. I can input numbers to get exact system margins. Unfortunately, the numbers I input don't match what Finale displays on the screen. For example, I'll edit a system margin, input 0.5 for the left margin, and click apply. After I do this, Finale moves the margin I just adjusted to approximately 0.27. I can verify this because I have Show Rulers enabled. This only happens with the left system margins (not with the page margins nor top, bottom, or right system margins). Has anybody else had this problem? I think it's a bug in the program. Is there a fix?
Thanks,
Paul

I'm probably way off here, but I think these measurements are relative to the system size. So check to see if your systems are smaller than 100%.

Paul,
I haven't heard of this problem before and the system margin settings are independent from your staff/system/page scaling.
What are your exact Rulers settings?
In which Measurement Unit are you working?
Could you post a file that exhibits this behavior?

Cliff is correct. Unless you are at 100%, margins that
you enter will be in relation to percentage of the page
scale.
For example, if at 100% you indent .5 in., the system will
be indented .5 inches (actual size). If you then you
reduce the page scale to 50%, the system will be
indented .25 inches (actual size).
Just an example on how Finale thinks.
One way around this is to set the page at 100% and
then do system reductions (with keep margins...or
something of the sort...selected).
Also, you can drag the systems manually with the page
layout tool to get the desired indent.

Thierry, for this particular document, I have the staff scaled to 100%. I have view/show rulers checked. The units are inches. I've attached an example (On pages 2 & 3, the left system margin is set to 0.6666". On the screen, however, it appears to be about 3/8+".)
I made a new file, and was unable to duplicate the problem. So, maybe there is something wrong with this particular file. The file has gone through extensive revisions, and has been imported from a previous version of Finale.
Thanks for the input,
Paul

Paul,
In the file you attached, your page is scaled to 58%. Choose the resize tool (%), then click in the top left corner of your page and you will see this.
Cheers,
Tim

I thought only staves and systems could be resized. I didn't realize that pages could be resized as well.

Paul,
You can resize noteheads, notes/rests, staves, systems and pages.
Cheers,
Tim
