Frequently when editing I adjust the position of bar lines, the beaming of notes, and note positions.
Quite often when I reopen saved scores, these adjustments have been restored to the default positions which I had altered.

How can I get these adjustments to stay as I want them?

Turn Automatic Music Spacing off (Preferences > Edit). That will keep the barlines as you have repositioned them. That will also keep your note position changes, although you might want to check the Music Spacing Options and make sure the "Manual Positioning" drop-down menu is set to "Ignore".

Changes to beaming, however, should be pretty much permanent. What kind of beaming changes are you making?

The culprit could be the program specific setting Automatic Music Spacing (as N. Grossingink pointed out).

But for the barlines the culprit could also be a document specific setting for Multimeasure Rests:
Update Automatically

Go to
Document menu > Document Options > Multimeasure Rests
and try de-selecting "Update Automatically”.

The option “Update Automatically” does it job of breaking a multimeasure rest during the initial phase when you from Scroll View add music to empty measures.
At the same time it resets all measure widths, to make room for the added music.

Since you are now adjusting “the position of bar lines, the beaming of notes, and note positions”, I assume that you already have entered all the music, and now are fine-tuning the layout.
During this phase you can safely de-select "Update Automatically”.

Thanks very much for this help. Automatic Music Spacing turned out to be the culprit. That seemed also to settle the note-position problems.

The beaming issue concerned eighth-notes in (musically) counterintuitive groupings, to follow verbal groups. That too seems to have settled with Automatic Music Spacing.

P.S. After two annoying crashes on my Windows 7 PC, I reinstalled Finale 2014.5. That may have been a factor too.
