I have a windows 10 computer without a sound card, so my finale 2014 program has no playback. Any recommendations on an external sound drive? Sound blaster did not work.

I've never heard of a motherboard without a soundcard built in, at least in recent years. Are you sure?

If Sound Blaster didn't work you may have other issues.

So, does the motherboard have a built-in sound card? I use that on both of my setups. What is the brand of computer?

If your computer beeps at you, then there is an on-board sound card. :)

According to the specs available online, that system has high def audio built in. You might want to call Dell to find out how to get it to work for you. It's there and should work fine with Finale.

Zuill

P.S.: Here's what it has:

   Realtek Audio Codec ALC662VD

Intel 5.1 channel HD Audio (integrated)

I don't have Windows 10, but I imagine that W 10 is not much different than other versions of Windows. Go to your control panel. There should be a "sound" option. Click it and check out the settings there. There should also be an icon of a speaker on the lower right task bar. Check out the options there--you might have it muted. I have a "Beats Audio" card and there is also an option to change its settings in the Control Panel. There should be no need these days for an additional soundcard like the SoundBlaster, as the onboard cards that come with today's computers are more than good enough for Finale (and they are actually superior, in most cases, to the old Soundblasters).

If that doesn't work, then do ask Zuill suggests--or find a techy friend to have a look at your system.

This is probably a stupid question, but does the OP have speakers plugged into her computer. I have a Dell with a sound card, but it requires external speakers (unlike my laptop). If the OP just switched from a laptop, the need for external speakers might not be obvious.

The setup instructions I read online give all the details about the system, where to plug in the speakers. It also has a headphone jack, so one could test it out with a simple pair of earbuds if no speakers are available.
