Can anyone give me some guidance on the background I need to develop plug-ins? I'm a retired programmer who has programmed in many languages but not C++. I'm willing to buy books or enroll in a course, but I want a rough idea of what I need to learn in order to pick the best book or class.

Some dumb questions:

Do I need to know Visual C++ or command line?
What is a reasonable Compiler to buy?
Is the 1999 documentation the most up to date?

BTW, I'm a very experienced Finale user with 16 years experience.

THANKS!

So am I! I have done a small amount of programming so far though. This will change. Will my degree level (British) background in maths be useful here?

Many thanks to all who reply.

Kindest regards,
