Hello All,
Is there a way to create Hybrid Chords
using the Chord Tool. What I'm trying to
accomplish is creating 2 tension chords
separated by a dash. This is what I've
discovered so far...in the chord tool, I have
manually created 2 chords with the under
score line. So, to create F7 over (dash) G,
this is no problem. The problem is, I can't
seem to create an F7 over a G7 (G chord
w/tensions) using the same underscore
line. Is this not possible? Am I wrong to
think that hybrid chords can be any 2
chords stacked with tensions or no
tensions? It seems that the way Finale
creates the dash is saying the bottom
chord is the Bass and is not recognizing it
as another chord on the bottom with
tensions. Is the way I'm describing it
make any sense to anyone? I'm learning
it's hard to describe Finale issues using
words...I'll improve. Any suggestions?
Couldn't find anything in the search.

Here's a trick to do it:
1. Enter the chords using the Type into score
method
2. Enter the chord you wish to appear as the
bottom chord
3. Press the up arrow key
4. Enter the chord you wish to appear as the top
chord (it will appear above the first entered
chord)
5. Draw a line between them with the Smart Shape
Tool straight line
Works pretty well. Hope it helps.

Thanks Joel,
I'll try your suggestion. Follow up question...is this something CODA has to update? Am I right to think the dash (underscore dash) should be able to create 2 hybrid chords with tensions? It seems to act just like a slash with a bass.
Anyway, I guess I'll do the workaround for now. Thanks again!

It sounds to me like you're trying to use
the alternate bass note feature as a
compound chord (F7/G can be thought of
as an F7 chord over a G chord, but Finale
looks at it as an F7 chord over a G bass
note). If you just need this for printing, you
can make the whole compound chord as
a chord suffix F7/G7, and don't show the
root. The advantage is that you can still
use the chord tool as a single entry, but it
won't automatically transpose, and I'm not
sure how it will act if you need playback.
