Forgive a senior citizen's curiosity, but I have noticed several correspondents use odd punctuation groups in their messages - like a colon followed by a hyphen followed by a left or right bracket. Is this some sort of HTML code I should know about, or is it a private thing? I have tried clicking on the zones but nothing happens.
Regards J Alex.
PS If it's private, just tell me to get lost.

Do a search on Google for "smileys", and you'll find pages like:

...which should explain the strange characters.

Best regards,

Do a search for "emoticons". They were initially developed in the pre-internet days of BBSing which some users here may be old enough to remember <GRIN>.

Jari, Benjamin, thank you. I never thought of looking at these things sideways!
I visited the sites and now I have a stiff neck.
It's a pity nobody local in my age group has a computer. I wouldn't have to bother you people so much. But the Forum always comes to the rescue!
Regards, J Alex
