Whenever I try to assign instrument sounds in the Aria player with the Garritan instruments for Finale library, I get an endless spinning cursor and I have to force quit. The machine has the latest i7 processor with 32 Gb RAM. Any ideas? I already uninstalled and reinstalled Finale and Garritan.
Thanks,

"Check Preferences. Maybe the current driver doesn't support this sample rate."
I then click through the dialog and go to Tools / Preferences in the Aria player. This results in an immediate crash.

This is a top of the line off the shelf Dell XPS 8700. The following audio devices are present:
Device Description Type nVIDIA HDMI/DP @ nVIDIA GK104 - High Definition Audio Controller PCI Realtek ALC899 @ Intel Lynx Point PCH - High Definition Audio Controller [C-2] PCI
I would expect that the built-in audio would work. I also have a MOTO Traveler, but have to get a FireWire card for it.

Incidentally, I also installed Sibelius and it complains that no Audio hardware is found. Strange since it's a high end Dell machine with build in audio.

Thanks,

I did get a FireWire card for my MOTU Traveler and that worked. But I think the reason the built-in audio wasn't working before was because I didn't have anything plugged into the audio output. I guess it's part of the Dell sound management in Win 8. Even in the Dell sound manager, the standard Windows audio device doesn't appear until I plug something in to the built-in audio output jack. I've never known that it mattered whether something was plugged in or not.
