I've not used Finale so much the last year, and it seems that I've forgot something. I wrote a piece in 6/8 in Finale 2002. I wanted to beam 3 + 3 eight notes, but the notes refused to beam together -- they were only written as single eight notes. I spent some time reading the on line manual, but was unable to find a solution. The strange thing was that when I saved the piece as a midi file and transcribed it in Finale 2001b, the beaming was right -- And when I saved it and opened it in Finale 2002, it still looked right. What shall I do to get the right beaming in Finale 2002?

Olav -
You'll want to read up on Time Signatures (specifically Compound Meters) in your User Manual for the most comprehensive answer, but here's the short of it:
Initial beaming patterns are governed by the Time Signature. If, when setting the Time Signature, you see 6 eighth notes in the preview window of the Time Sig dialog, you're going to get 6 individually flagged eighth notes in the score.
However, if you see two dotted quarters in the Time Sig dialog, you're going to get your eighth notes beamed in groups of 3 (3 eighths = 1 dotted quarter).
Here's what to do. Open your current score (in 6/8, with individually flagged eighths) and double-click the first measure with the Time Sig tool. In the Time Sig db, DECREASE (move the top slider to the left) the top number to 2 - you're trying to achieve 2 "beats" in the measure. Each of those beats is going to be a dotted quarter, so INCREASE (move the bottom slider to the right) the bottom number until you see dotted quarters (it should be three clicks to the right of eighth notes). You should now see "6/8" with the display showing two dotted quarters. Click OK.
Select All with the Mass Mover tool and choose Rebeam > Rebeam Music from the Mass Mover menu. That should be it.
By the way, if you're starting from scratch, the easiest thing to do is choose the Time Signature tool and right-click the measure you're trying to change. Select 6/8 from the contextual menu that appears. Finale's default 6/8 time sig (as used in the context menu and Setup Wizard) is pre-defined to beam in groups of 3.
Hope that helps.

For a new piece, in the Time Signature Tool, set the Number of Beats to two, and the Beat Duration to dotted quarter note. The Time Signature will read 6/8, and you will get the beaming you want.
For a piece that's already written, select Mass Mover Tool, select all the measures, then Mass Mover Menu > Rebeam > Rebeam to Time Signature, and set up the T.S. as described above.

I had the same problem. The quick way I use is to click on the note entry button on the toolbar and use the keyboard button " / " to join and set the quaver beaming for blues style etc.
This works in Finale and PrintMusic.
