I'm editing a large orchestral score with Windows Finale 25. In the score I have for example one line for the two oboes. The 1st oboe part is set to display only level 1. The second oboe part is set to also show level one except when, as is usually the case there is activity in level 2. On some occasions level one and level two are in unison. If an accidental is necessary because for example in Gmajor the note to be played is F natural ond not F sharp crosslayer accidental positioning kicks in and only one natural sign appears. If however in the next bar I want to have a cautionary accidental to remind both players in unison to play F sharp and want these accidentals to be in the part, crosslayer positioning does not work. Instead I have effectively a doublesharp in the score. If I hide the second sharp in the score it also vanishes from the part. In both parts I have the cautionary accidental I want. I see two solutions to ridding the score of the second sharp: 1) only put the cautionary accidental in the first oboe part and extract the second oboe part before printing, in order to add cautionary accidentals, and remove any layer one notes which are not necessary. or 2) use the accidental-mover tool to move the second accidental so that it is directly in the same position as the other one, and then respace the bar. Of course it wouldn't be a problem if cautionary accidentals were in the part were not automatically linked to the score....
Does anyone have a better work-around?
