They have a bug in Finale 2004 under windows XP where they produce invalid EPS files on export. This has been a bug ever since they released 2004 a few months ago. I was working with their customer support staff to get the problem resolved. I recently emailed them again, asking what the status of this was. I was sent a marketing blurb in which they stated that EPS would be supported on MAC, windows 98 and Windows ME only. No EPS on win2k or XP.

They indicated they'd refund my money if I wanted.

Does Sibelious produce EPS files on XP and can it import Finale 2k files?

jzucker asked... Does Sibelious produce EPS files on XP and can it import Finale 2k files?

Your question would be better answered on the Sibelius website. Good luck with your refund.

Have you tried using the XP Compatability mode?

Compatibility mode doesn't have anything to do with this problem. It's not a matter of a crash. It's a matter of Finale not putting the proper Font references in the EPS file.

Hmm, the Finale 2004 documentation/blurb did explicitly stating that it couldn't create EPS files under Windows XP, IIRC.

However, I also seem to recall that someone came up with a solution to this problem - something about altering the fonts themselves or the like. I'm assuming that you've searched through these forums? It may have been on the other Finale list that the solution was posted.

Where did it state that in other than the email to me?

I remember seeing it in all the promotional material I recieved, as well as on the website: www.finalemusic.com/finale/system-requirements.asp

No, the restriction on import/export was added later. It was not there when I purchased the software originally. That's why they offered to give me a refund.

I'm not sure if this would solve your problem, but you could try using Adobe Acrobat to print the file to a PDF, then convert the PDF into an EPS file.

At that point you should be able to do whatever you want with it.

Sibelius doesn't at the moment import Fin2K4 files, but it does import Fin2K files.
Sibelius does export EPS files, although I haven't tried it to see if it is any more successful than Finale is.

BUT, (and this is a HUGE but) I find that Sibelius, for all it might be fine for those new to computer music engraving, is much harder to use than Finale. I can enter an entire score in Finale in about the time I can input a single line of the same score in Sibelius. There are many people who love Sibelius and can work very well with it, but to me everything is counter-intuitive and there is nothing that compares to Finale's speedy entry using the computer keyboard, where my typing skills help me fly through music entry.

So I suggest you try the demo of Sibelius (current version of the demo, as I understand it, is 3.1 while current version of the full Sibelius product is version 3.11) and see if you can get your head and fingers around its data entry.

You may well find that sticking to an older version of Finale that works for you is a better way to go.
