By default, Finale treats odd-numbered pages as right pages and even-numbered pages as left pages. It places the even page numbers on the left side of the page and the odd page numbers on the right side of the page. That works great when you have more than two pages and print and bind the part like a booklet. However, if you just have two pages and simply want them to be side-by-side, Finale puts the "2" for the second page on the left (or inside) edge of the page instead of putting it at the right (outside) edge of the 2nd page. Is there a way to tell Finale when you want booklet-style page numbering vs. side-by-side page numbering? I frequently have situations where some parts to a piece only need 2 pages (I prefer to do them side-by-side) while others have more pages and need to be booklet formatted. If I position the page numbers for one format, it messes them up for the other. Thanks!

If you have just two pages, do you need pagination?

However, you can enter new independent Inserts via Text tool and choose only one instrument, and have it separated from other instruments/pages.

Alternatively, just type using the Text Tool "2" on the second page, and place wherever you want.

Traditional positioning is fairly standard. If you want them reversed, then this can be done in the attributes box.

Ah, I didn't realize I could do independent Inserts based on the instrument. I'll explore that further, thanks!

You're right, you really don't need a "2" on a two-page part, but when I deleted it, it also removed the page numbers from my longer parts. Same thing with just reversing them, it reversed them on all the parts.

What I do is move the ones I don't need off the page in the chosen part(s). They have to be unlinked first.

I've see you say before that you need to unlink things first. This is a completely unnecessary operation.

When you're in a part, ANY move you make to an item like an expression or a Text Tool item WILL be automatically unlinked as soon as you move it or nudge it (and will turn orange to show this). If you hold down the command key while you nudge, then the item STAYS linked. This means that the move will transfer to the score and all other parts.

When you're in the score, the opposite behaviour is true. Any positioning change you make in the score WILL be transferred to the parts by default. To override this, hold down the command key while you drag or nudge. The item will then be automatically unlinked to ALL parts (and will turn orange to show that it is unlinked).

I didn't explain my process, just the rough concept.

If just one part needs a different page number, I first move the score number off the page. This unlinks it in this part, but leaves it in the others. I then create a new one and ctrl-drag it off the page. (Mac uses command as you said.) This new text item is off the page in all parts. I then drag it back in the chosen part, keeping it only in this part, but still off the page in all the others. That is my quick and simple method. I don't need to leave the chosen part to do all of this.
