Hi,

How do you convert older MIDI files, that use the standard piano sound, so that they play back using the new Garritan Steinway D plugin that I bought last week?

Welcome to the forum!

The forum is divided into not-well-labelled categories, and this area is for software development of plug-ins for Finale.
You may get a reply from MakeMusic telling you to post in either the Mac or Windows Notation areas.

However: if the file is still a MIDI files, then it will have no instrument data associated with it. You should be able to import that into Finale and the select the new instrument. If it is an existing Finale document, then I would have thought that the new instrument will be available with the rest of the GPO sounds in the Kontakt or Aria Player.

Please let us know what platform and version of Finale you have, as the instructions for selecting GPO instruments may differ.

Yes, I'm not sure where I should be writing with my question.

I have Finale 09 on a MacBook and I'm wanting to switch the instrument on some older Midi's and Finale files from the standard piano sound to the new Garritan Steinway D plugin that I bought last week.

I can see how to switch among the 128 standard MIDI sounds, but my problem is getting the new plugin to become available as an instrument sound...

I don't use GPO a lot, but you need to set Garritan Instruments for Finale as your Audio Unit of choice, then have Play through Audio Units selected, (rather than MIDI). Then when you hit "Edit" next to the Audio Unit, you'll come to the Aria Player, where you should be able to select your instruments of choice.
