Any boffins out there who can help? My finale playback goes through Roland Soundcanvas. Is there anyway I can record that output on my harddrive?

You have two obvious options:
 
1. Download and install Audacity (sourceforge.net), and plug your Roland SC to your soundcard LINE IN - you can then record it directly

2. Invest in a solid state recorder (Tascam, Korg, Boss, Edirol) and record to that - you can then copy the data to your hard disk
