Welp, I used to love Finale tech support. I had a problem with ASIO or Finale crashing, I called the number, and a friendly, knowledgeable staff member helped me out. For basic usage questions, I always used the MakeMusic forum (which is great), but for OS or soundcard issues, phone support was a lifeline.

Until today, when I had an issue opening Finale... went to the Finale tech support page... and discovered there's apparently no more phone support. For probably a thousand dollars of purchases and upgrades over the past decade, I can now "ask the community" for help.

Disappointing, to say the least. Is MakeMusic downsizing? Anyone know what's going on?

Ah, I just read the locked post at the top of the forum.

I'm going to leave this post here anyways. Bad form, MM.

MM is a small company. It's quite surprising that they offer phone support at all. None but the largest software firms do. That must be a considerable cost. If they can use the money for 20 call centre staff and spend it on 10 programmers, then that's a much better benefit to us all.

I agree that closing this forum and relying on the zendisk thing is not helpful.

But if they take the money for 20 call center staff, and keep it, that's even better for them. Especially if they rely on us to do their tech support.

I doubt that's the case. You can still submit support requests directly to MM.

There's an old joke in publishing: "If we wanted to make money, we'd sell paper." While turning a profit is essential for the continued success of the product, I doubt anyone gets into music notation software because they're ruthless capitalists who want to get a dollar value out of everything.

The voice of reason as aye from Dr Wiggy. With that agreed, the attitude to the forum remains disconcerting and to this user at least inexplicable.
