Using the Mathemaitca kernal and its Mathlink intercommunincation protocal allows developers to write "plug-ins" for external applications. Is there any one pursuing this possibility? A Mathematica 7 Home Edition (for non-commercial use only) only costs users $295, which can be used with any Mathlink enabled application, such as a Plug-in developed for Finale (2009). This would allow extensive support for composition and arrangeing modifications of notation content in an enormous variety of ways.
 
If any one has any interest in doing this please let me know.

Not Mathematica, but I do like the idea of integrating Prolog into a plug-in ...

Interesting. I remember a college professor using Mathematica for some presentations when I was taking a meteorology class years ago.

Finale 97-2009 on Vista 64-bit, Quad-core 2.3GHz, 4 GB of Ram.

The thing about Prolog, is that it excells in tasks such as pattern matching, searching, backtracking for alternate solutions and general inferencing. It is such a perfect match for music, and I've used it over the years for many MIDI activities, having build my first MPU-401 interface for micro-PROLOG back in the early 1980s. The DOS version of 386-PROLOG inherited similar features a few years later, and somewhat belatedly, I added MIDI support to WIN-PROLOG just a couple of years ago.
 
As well as being great for writing utilities - my current S90ES voice librarian is a Prolog program, for example - Prolog has been fantastic for writing algorithmic composition programs, and other experimental stuff like that. With these sorts of existing applications in the background, and its unsurpassed logically analytical abilities, it strikes me that something like Finale would be the perfect add-on to allow full-on, AI-enhanced music production.
 
I just need to free up the time to get stuck in and produce the plug-in linkup ...
