I need to buy more printer paper and I'm wondering what type of paper different folks use? What is the best quality paper for printing music documents? And where do you get it?

I just looked there--where do you find it? I saw very fancy paper, 30 sheets for $80, that sort of thing. No regular printer paper.

I would love to find 11 x 17 short grain, 60#.

It's been a couple of years. Call them, that's what I did, now that I think about it.
No print-through, sharp resolution for ink-jet.
I need to order more, so I'll be calling them soon.
I don't remember how much $.
I don't remember much.

I seem to have ordered 11x22 cut down to 11x17,
28 lb Color Inkjet Bond.
I'll bet they can give you just what you want.

I have used it for over a decade for everything I publish. I have never had a complaint. Same for 8.5x11.

Good question. I think so, but I have not had an inkjet since before the turn of the century. Maybe in the link the answer is provided under FAQ?

I use an HP 5200, but that is laser so it is of no help really.

It depends on the printer.

I use an HP Inkjet paper with the same specs. It costs a little more but I have never, ever had a jam using it, unlike many other papers. The way that HP printers use a feed roll instead of gravity, this is important to me.

For multiple copies of scores that I sell, I have an arrangement with a local mom-n-pop copy shop. They use an off-white 32lb laser paper that I like. I email the file prepared in Adobe Acrobat and pick it up a day or two later. It's less than half the cost of FedEx-Kinkos.

I realize that this thread is, to-date, about the US weights & sizes of paper, but in case it's of interest, I've recently had a medium thick (222 pages) full score printed on 100gm paper in both B4 and A3 sizes, with coil binding, thicker back covers (at least 170gm) and transparent front covers protecting the cover design on 100gm paper. The result is almost wholly satisfactory and seems likely to be as durable as anything other than full case binding. It also lies completely flat wherever it is opened.

I used to use mat board for the back cover of coil-bound scores but found it deteriorated with heavy use, so I switched to plastic about 1mm thick. I've also taken to reinforcing the edge of the clear plastic front cover with linen tape before punching.

I ordered that Paper from Amazon, dirt cheap too!
I'll compare it to the stuff from Freedom Paper, but I'm sure that was a good bit more expensive, as it was a custom-cut size.
Thanks for the info, Bryan!

Over here, FedEx Kinkos will do that for you. You can set up and do everything online, select the paper & binding and have it delivered or pick up when done. It's fairly expensive, however.

By shopping around, I was able to get the same quality for much, much less at a local place. Instead of online ordering, I email what I want and they reply with upload links for the cover and body. I drive the ten miles to pick the job up when done. A minor inconvenience but I'll live, right?

I sometimes use Kinkos but only when the fast turnaround outweighs the cost. Being part of FedEx and having locations all over the US, I can get a copy into someone's hands one-two days after the order is placed.
