When I open the zip file the program came in, it says that there are no viewers registered for that type of file, and then when i choose open on default viewers, it opens on microsoft notepad and therefore i cannot install finale notepad. what should i do?

The installer is an "exe" file, and does not need any other programs to run. It sounds like the download may be incomplete, such as if your connection timed out. Check the file properties for the file size - it should be about 3.1MB. If it smaller than that, try downloading it again.
