PDF and EPS look perfectly fine. Both open just fine in Photoshop CS2, the EPS opens as well in IrfanView 4.30 without problems. Here are links to both files:

Unbelievable,

I just wanted to ask the same.

I really need EPS export. I can't export it as PDF, pages are huge and I need very small examples to be extracted. In Finale fonts look ok. When exported as eps and opened in Preview or InDesign CS4 some symbols are either missing or changed in to Times.

Problem with symbols (when typed):
¡ ” ¥ £ ¢ € $ ∞ ‰ • Ω é ® † µ ü ı œ

This is a font with 255 symbols. So Finale reads well but the export is fault.

I tried saving a musical snippet (something illustrating which horn bass clef is meant) as EPS and importing in back into Finale and it didn't work--some fonts were wrong. So if it can't even handle that...

The links don't work for me. I can't download them.

2012 will save PDF selections, and perhaps its Unicode framework will help you?

I think the problem is between the fonts and Illustrator. When I had CS 2 I tried, in a new Illustrator document, to create a text block, type in a simple character (eg. b), change the font to Maestro, and I got a flat sign. I then tried the same with alt q to make a black note head and it would not allow me to select maestro. The same if alt q was in a text string of random characters.

This happened if I was using postscript fonts.

I now use TT fonts and have no trouble, though I have also upgraded to CS 4 in this time, so I cannot say which is the solution, or if it needs to be both.

@Wiggy, maybe right-click and "Save As"? I have no problem opening them on other systems. Is anyone else having problems opening/saving the links?

Ok, I figured out the problem, at least for me. Illustrator is getting confused if the fonts are embedded in the EPS if the same font is already present in the system. Simply un-checking "Include Fonts" in the Postscript Options section when exporting a graphic selection seems to do the trick. With this checked, regardless of which font is used, Illustrator opens garbage; with it un-checked, Illustrator opens the EPS perfectly.

EPS files display fine for me in Illustrator, regardless of embedded fonts. I see you're on Windows, though. That may make a difference.

And EPS files display just fine for me, in every program, it seems, other than Illustrator. Strange... Hope this helps someone in the future.

As Postscript and Illustrator are both made by Adobe, one would expect them to work well together. If other EPS files, not from Finale, don't work properly in Illustrator, then I don't think it's a Finale problem.
You may need to reinstall Illustrator, or do whatever the usual troubleshooting techniques are for Windows.

This is a fresh installation of Illustrator. I just tried exporting a page from Sibelius 7, and that EPS opens properly in Illustrator as well as the other aforementioned programs. Although Sibelius doesn't have the option to include fonts, based on the file size of the selection I chose, it appears that fonts are not included. It sure looks like a Finale problem. I'll be reporting this to MakeMusic.

How do your files open in Preview?

I just tested the same font in Sibelius. The export is complete. So, it is Finales fault. It displays correctly in Finale, in Sibelius, but the export to EPS from Finale is wrong...

Strange enough, when saving as PDF, and than choosing .ps - all fonts are well included. So it must be a Finale bug.
